Hi! I love teaching! Whether I am helping a child with their first lessons, guiding teenagers through vocal changes, helping an adult beginner student find their voice, prepping students for festivals, auditions exams and performances, or helping an advanced student put that last high polish on their repertoire, I love it all!
I have been teaching for over 25 years, and I pride myself on meeting every single student where they are. Every voice is absolutely unique, so I will be tailoring our lessons to you! I teach healthy, sustainable technique that will help you build range, vocal freedom, expression and confidence. And this will be done in a space that is friendly, safe, and supportive for all.
What do I do when I'm not teaching? I am also a freelance singer, a member of the Vancouver Cantata Singers, the Director of Music at Trinity Presbyterian Church, and I often do workshops with choirs, and adjudicate at music festivals. When I'm not making music, you can find me reading, knitting, or hanging out with my family which includes my spouse, our two kids, and our bearded dragon!

Mezzo-soprano Melanie Adams is a prominent member of Vancouver’s music community as a solo and ensemble performer and as a teacher. As a soloist, her repertoire ranges from early music to world premieres of new music by prominent Canadian composers. She has collaborated with many musical and theatrical organizations and has created new roles and works over her career that now spans over 25 years. In her choral world, Melanie is the Director of Music at the new Trinity Presbyterian Church in New Westminster and Burnaby, is a soloist and section leader with the Vancouver Cantata Singers, and from 2000-2020 was a member of the celebrated musica intima.
Teaching is also a very important facet of Melanie’s career, and she owns and operates an active and thriving studio in New Westminster. She is a Certified Teacher of the Royal Conservatory of Music, and a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and is on the Executive Board of the Vancouver chapter.
